Essential oils are a wonderfully healing and balancing addition to acupuncture appointments. They are especially helpful to round out treatments for sensitive or pediatric patients or when useful points are contra-indicated to needle (for example, in pregnancy).
Benefits beyond measure
White Cypress utilizes a wide array of different essential oils directly on the skin, sometimes neat and sometimes diluted, to penetrate to a deeper level of balance and healing. We can do essential oil only treatments, but often we use this treatment modality in conjunction with acupuncture. We do not use one particular brand, but seek out the best of the best for a more pure experience.
You may investigate the benefits of oils listed below, or can see even more benefits here.

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of thin needles into points specifically chosen for you and your condition. This process stimulates movement of electromagnetic energy within the body in order to allow your body’s natural healing to take place. Points are selected based on many years of education and training which is based on over 3,000 years of practitioner experience in China (known as Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM).
Moxibustion & Acupuncture
Moxibustion, or moxa as it is commonly referred to, is a dried form of the Mugwort plant. This plant burns slow and hot, penetrating the meridians and warming the channels. There are many different forms of Moxa, but all will create the smoky smell you may associate with acupuncture practices.
At White Cypress, we utilize a very condensed form of Moxa stick called “smokeless” Moxa. Although the benefits of a more smoky moxa are vast, we are also limited by our environment and our old building has no exhaust fan or open windows.

A traditional Chinese therapy used to treat illnesses and imbalances for over 2,500 years. Originally, the “cups” were made from animal horns, and practitioners used their own lips to create suction. In modern times it is becoming more popular and more recognizable thanks to Olympic athletes. Cupping therapy utilizes the application of local suction to various areas of the body. As muscles become more and more tense, blood flow slows and stagnates, or pools, in those muscles. This form of treatment brings that stagnate blood to the surface for the body to recirculate, causing circular bruises that can last from days to weeks. The darker the bruise, the more tension in that area, and the greater benefit you receive from the therapy.
Traditional Fire-Cupping Technique
A needle-free alternative to acupuncture. Suction created by applying heat to the cup—such as from a lighted candle—hence the name “fire cupping”. At White Cypress, we utilize traditional fire-cupping to create a vacuum (negative pressure) in glass cups. We can do this service alone but often add acupuncture treatments to maximize benefits. Cups are generally left on the body for 5 to 15 minutes.

At White Cypress we use a number of additional hand-made, all natural, products like balms, salves and tinctures to treat symptoms or increase the body’s overall defenses.
Which One Does What?
Balms and Salves for skin irritations (eczema, rashes, psoriasis) or wounds (bruises, scratches, burns) are a good way to treat at home. Tinctures and syrups made by your acupuncturist can help boost immunity and reduce stress. These are a gentle way to utilize the medicinal effects plants have to offer. Seasonally we carry Elderberry Syrup, ginger & honey syrups as well as turmeric, anise/fennel, chamomile, and peppermint tinctures or extracts. We are adding more variety to our product list every day.
We also carry various products from Meadowsweet Herbs in Missoula, Montana. These aid in healing of any skin condition as well as some targeted for sleep. See the conditions treated section below to see more ways balms and salves can help and conditions that can be treated.

Our practitioners are trained in both Swedish and Tuina (Chinese bodywork) massage. Swedish and deep tissue are fluid and relaxing. Tuina utilizes more invigorating and rhythmic techniques including cupping, tapping, slapping and rolling. These techniques offer a unique bodywork experience for a patient looking for relief rather than just relaxation.
Tuina Massage
A technique that is becoming more and more popular, pronounced “twee-nah.” It is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine that addresses specific patterns of disharmony in the body. To learn more about Tuina scroll down to our Types of Massage section below or visit this informational video.
